INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN PLAN
Phase 1
Meet the team & set goals
Met with the SEM and defined specific objectives for the Innovation for Social Change (ISC) course, focused on cultivating social consciousness and exploring topics such as identity, intersectionality, socialization, implicit bias, system thinking, and empathy. The course was to be conducted in 10 months, broken up into 4 terms.
Assessed the user audience, based on their cultural profile, knowledge levels, and learning preferences. The course was to be delivered annually to 120+ graduating mature learners, and needed to meet the Colombian and American course standards and graduation requirements.
Conducted a needs analysis, identified the societal and cultural gaps in knowledge and skills that the course aimed to address.
Phase 2
Design the course & choose technology platforms
Developed the course outline based on course expectations. Designed a goal for each term: Term 1 Identity, Term 2 System Analysis, Term 3 Prototype Building and Networking, Term 4 Final ISC Implementation.
Organized the course structure on the LMS Schoology and sequenced topics, resources and lessons based on the learning objectives.
Designed assessment styles, created formative templates and summative projects to measure learner understanding and progress through course. Made sure each assessment was attainable and conducted at a regular basis throughout the year long course to provide systematic feedback. Created a major summative assessment to be completed at the end of each term.
Selected instructional methods with co-facilitator, choose the most effective strategies for delivering content. For this course we decided on the for in person learning the course would be accessible on the LMS Schoology with embedded Google platforms for easy access for users and facilitators. For virtual learning, the course was transferred from the LMS Schoology to be also used with Articulate Rise 360.
Watch the video below to get an idea of how the course is structured on the LMS platform.
Phase 3
Develop & Create
Built the course content, developed the learning materials and resources outlined in the design phase. Created multimedia elements: developed videos, power points, google slides, interactive simulations, and other multimedia components. Made sure all resources were easily embedded within technology platforms, and organized for intuitive use.
Reviewed and revised, ensured that the course content aligned with the objectives of the initial course analysis and was engaging for learners.

Phase 4
Launch & Facilitate the Course
Met with co-facilitator and provided training on content to ensure consistency. Revised all course material, and pacing of the course to make sure the course objectives were attainable.
Launched the course, made the course available to learners on Schoology and Rise 360. Provided technical and instructional support to users and other instructors during the course. Modified and adjusted the course content and pacing in response to timeline unexpected circumstances and events that arose in the institution
Co-facilitated course to over 120+ users annually. Managed and approved 35 group projects per year. Regularly checked in with users to make sure they were managing their timelines and meeting their own project deadlines. Collaborated with course users to help them choose their ISC project ideas, developing innovative prototypes, and provided guidance in identifying companies for networking opportunities.
Phase 5
Coordinate Shark Tank Event & Final ISC Fair
In the 3rd & 4th term of the course, users are asked to network with companies and foundations in Colombia. In the role as lead coordinator, guidance was offered to learners in the development of their ISC proposals, finding sponsors for their project and in the creation of their project prototypes.
Held an in person feedback fair, Shark Tank style, for users to pitch their innovations to a panel of judges. Coordinated all aspects of the event, invited 20+ professionals from different fields to come and evaluate the ISC projects and give suggestions to learners about how to improve their projects.
Guided learners in signing contracts with their chosen business partners and confirming collaborations.

In the final stages of the course managed all final submissions of project, written reports, video submissions and developed tools. Kept track of submissions on the LMS Schoology and using Google Sheets.

Leading up to the final fair, communicated using Google platforms and Zoom meetings with all involved parties what their roles were in the fair, the assessment expectation of the learners and nominations of best projects.

Collaborated with other stakeholders to prepare the space to host the ISC fair,
Coordinated the annual ISC Fair, overseeing all course users in showcasing their projects to an audience of over 1500+ attendees.

Example of some ISC collaborations and final projects:
1. A team of four learners tackled the social issue of menstrual taboos. They collaborated with a menstrual cup company in Colombia and a gynecology clinic, organizing free workshops for middle school students. These workshops focused on discussions about period poverty, normalizing menstrual cycles, and educating young people about various menstruation products.
2. A team of three learners founded their own company dedicated to researching sustainable fishing practices in Colombia. They initiated a business selling fish sourced sustainably from the Colombian ocean coast, with a focus on creating job opportunities in Bahia Solano and ensuring fair wages for the workers involved.
Read through some of the ISC project brochures completed by the course users.

Phase 6
Evaluation & Feedback
Collected feedback during the course using Google Forms to assess the effectiveness of project-based learning and identified areas for improvement. Evaluated the impact of the ISC course through the success of socially impactful projects and the engagement level at the annual ISC Fair.
Coordinated the Outstanding Fair for projects that met or exceed the course expectations.
Revised the course based on feedback and evaluation results, make enhancements for the following year and for future Innovation for Social Change participants.
